Yeah i know ,Ridley Scott was going to make I Am Legend with Arnold Schwarzenegger. And wasnt there a Crusade film that paul verhoven was going to make with Arnold.Speaking of this homage thing, i guess Tarantino is the master. but i he gets away with it all the time as he has an unique style of his own , or rather he has made 'homaging' his trademark, we actually go into watch his films to spot these homages.

Hi Ceaser,
Thanks mate.
Well, filmmakers are stealing from each other all the time. They call it "homage" (chortle, snigger).
I suppose they get away with it because they're not stealing direct pieces of narrative or dialogue, but I'm not entirely sure where the intellectual property law boundaries are set.
I had not heard of Megalopolis, but knew of Pinocchio.
Ridley Scott was going to make I Am Legend in the 90s. Wish he had.
The other big one that fascinates me is Jodorowsky's Dune. However there is a documentary that's been doing the festival circuit which I will most definitely see when it gets its release in Australia.

Dear Bryn, that was a great article. But what i dont understand is how other people can plunder ideas from her script without giving her credit. Isnt she not protected by the writer's Guild laws?, or are they ambivalent in cases like these. Its truly heartbreaking to hear this story. Anyway hats off to Clair Noto for her dogged determination

P.S. how about more articles about passion projects never got made . I am keen to hear about how Francis coppola's pet projects like Megalopolis and Pinocchio were scuttled by the studios.

Hi Joe (again),
yes, I was aware of the Species connection. I'm surprised I didn't mention it in my article.
Thank you for those links. I'm a big fan (gulity pleasure) of "Saturn 3", so I will relish devouring that site you linked to.
Please check out my site - www.cultprojections.com - It's relatively new, so not a huge amount of content on it yet. I have an archive site of "nightmare movie" reviews, if that tickles your fancy, over at www.horrorphile.net (I don't post there anymore, as my new site has its own horrorphile page).
Thanks once again for the props!

Hey again Bryn

(see my Comment on `Part 1' of this article, if that greeting makes no sense)

A fascinating analysis... thank you for it.

(As I say I'd be interested to see someone, eg you, anyone, do a comparison of this `The Tourist' script, to the `SPECIES' movie, or even - series of movies... just out of curiosity...)

Also - these 2 blogs may be of interest, along very similar lines:

Script Review – Alien 3’s `Monks In Space' (by Greg Moss)
https://mossfilm.wordpress.com/2012/11/24/script-review-alien-3s-monks-in-space/

and also, along similar lines (what `Development Hell' can do to a sci-fi film story, when it goes the opposite of `well'):

`Something Is Wrong On Saturn 3'

Anyway - thanks for a fascinating post Bryn (and - Karel).
